As our 'Select Program' is about to kick into full gear for 2018, I wanted to challenge not only our students, but also those of you reading this to join me in making some New Year's Resolutions. This morning, I came up with a list of things that I want to begin doing better, and I challenge you to do the same!
First, I resolve to become the best husband and father that I can be. I have a wonderful wife and almost-six-month-old little girl and they deserve the best that I can give them.
Next, I resolve to become healthier this year; more specifically physically healthy. If we are being honest, my diet isn't the greatest in the world, because I do love my steaks and BBQ, but I can certainly be more physically active. In fact, I joined a gym two days ago and have already been twice! I'm a little sore, but it's a good sore...
I also resolve to get back to my artistic roots. This includes reading more (though I already read a lot), playing my guitar more, and creating a journal for my little girl as she grows. I remember the days in college when I played guitar not only for extra money at the bars around town, but I also played purely for the enjoyment of it. Being an English major, I also used to write quite a bit; not just papers and essays, but poetry and short stories. I would like to include some of this in the journal that I am making for Charlotte.
Also, I'm going to become a better golfer. Having a child and changing jobs has not necessarily afforded me a lot of time to practice and play, and as a result my handicap has slipped to a 4.7 index. I just bought a brand new set of Cleveland wedges yesterday and I am going to be throwing darts this year!
Lastly, but of course, it is my mission this year to get as many of Gwinnett's Youth involved in Square One for Youth. We have the tools to not only introduce kids to the game of golf, but to also set them on the path to a successful career.
Now, I am challenging you to make some resolutions for the New Year. What are you going to do differently? What are you going to learn to do? I would love to see your thoughts and resolutions! Just reply to this post through our social media feeds. Here's to 2018!
